Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi west senatorial district, has been granted bail by a high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja. The presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu, granted the bail on health grounds. The Nation reports that Justice Halilu said Melaye should be granted bail because he cannot be arraigned on the stretcher or ‎on his hospital bed. The senator was asked to produce three sureties, one must be a clerk of the National Assembly. The other two sureties must be owners of properties within the Abuja metropolis. READ ALSO: Breaking: Atiku to be questioned when he returns from US - Lai Mohammed The senator, who was accused of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, surrendered to the Nigeria Police Force on January 4, after the police eight days siege on his Abuja residence. He was admitted at the police hospital, Abuja where he was receiving care before he was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) headquarters. Legit.ng earlier reported that an Abuja high court sitting in Maitama on Thursday, January 17, ordered the police to show cause over its continued detention of Senator Melaye. Justice Yusuf Halilu gave the order after Melaye’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), informed the court that his client has been in police custody since January 4, against what the law stipulated.
